Robert Anthony Russell passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at hospital in Montego Bay with his loving family in proximity.
He will be remembered for many things, by many people. He was a family man who taught his family to love unconditionally. He was a dedicated friend who would move mountains to make their lives better. He was an endearing entrepreneur who was bold enough to try new ventures. He was an avid bird shooter who travelled the globe to partake of the sport; he was an expert fisherman whose passions were imbued by his own father and passed along to his sons; he was a horse racing buff who always found time to take in a race at the tracks; he was a chef of great skills who was known particularly for his infamous curried goat feasts; he was a prodigious traveller who never missed an opportunity to be transported to a new country or be part of a new experience whether it was the Grammy’s or the Oscars; and he was a skilled orator and storyteller who took every opportunity to regale listeners with his unbelievable stories.
Robert also left behind a rich and lasting legacy that will be remembered long after his name is spoken. Through his impactful work, actions, and relationships, his contributions will continue to influence and benefit current and future generations, including his own grandchildren. He supported and encouraged them in whatever their childhood passions. He cherished their wit as much as he loved to impart his own.
He leaves an indelible mark on each of his grandchildren including Chelsea Russell (1997); Robert Anthony Russell, III (1999); Jude Edwards (2007); Isaac Edwards (2008); Sydney Edwards (2011); Darren King (2001); Drayden Knight (2009); Luke Russell (2013); Leia Russell (2015); Lauren Russell (2018); Hailey Byles (2020); and Rhea Byles (2023). Often described as a man in possession of big visions with an equally ebullient entrepreneurial spirit, Robert was simply nothing short of a force of nature. His insatiable drive to succeed, his love of country, and an indomitable spirit led to his many successes. However, it was in his failures where Robert learned the most valuable lessons. It taught him resilience, grit, and adaptability. Most all, it taught him the audacity to hope. In the end, Robert’s wife Barbara said it best, “Robert did not belong to us, he truly belonged to the world!”
